Good navigation is the art of knowing where you are and how to get to where you want to get to, whatever the weather or conditions. Despite what some people may say, it is not a dark or mystic art available only to some! With some good instruction, getting to grips with and following some basic principles and LOTS OF PRACTICE anyone can become competent at navigating in all that the British hills can throw at you. No matter what your current level is, whether you have no experience of navigating in the hills before, or if you stick rigidly to paths and tracks and lack the confidence to head of into wilder terrain, or if you already have a good grasp of all the basic map and compass skills but want to take it to the next level, a Climb-Mountains Navigation Course will help develop your skills.

Instructional Courses

Instructional courses are aimed at developing the skills to enable you to navigate confidently in the British Hills. The low ratios on all courses ensure a highly personalised service and allow the instructors to make sure you develop at a pace appropriate for you. We can assess the skills that you may already have before developing your techniques and skills to cope with more challenging navigational situations. How far we can take you depends on both the length of the course and the level you are starting from. Typically for someone with existing basic map skills a 5 day course is long enough to show you (and give you plenty of time to practice) all the necessary skills and building blocks to be able to navigate accurately in the British Hills in any weather conditions. That does not mean we can turn you into a Champion navigator in 5 days - you will then need to go away and practice those skills till they become second nature.
