Isle of Skye Scrambling
The Cuillin mountains of Skye are without doubt the jewel of British Mountaineering. While some look to complete a traverse of the main ridge line this leaves out so much that is just as worthy of exploration and discovery. On our Isle of Skye Scrambling courses day trips allow the best sections of the ridge to be enjoyed as well as classic scrambles that do not form part of the ridge. The contrast between mountains, lochs and sea on Skye gives a unique landscape that attracts anyone with a love of wild places. Photographers as well as climbers and walkers are drawn to the place and no matter how many times you visit the light and mood will vary and there will always be a new corner to discover.
Isle of Skye Scrambling - common itineraries :
- The round of Coire Lagan including the Inaccessible Pinnacle
- Pinnacle Ridge and Am Basteir
- The Dubhs ridge
- The Southern Munros including Sgurr nan Eag & Sgurr Dubh Mor
- Clach Glas, Blaven traverse
Skye Munros & Munro Baggers
Many of the munros on Skye are not easily ascended without some rock climbing experience or at the very least considerable scrambling experience. Many folk looking to complete a round of all the munros can find these summits a daunting challenge. Having an experienced guide with you when tackling the harder Munros can allow you to relax and enjoy these magnificent mountains while someone else takes care of the technicalities.
Scrambling Instruction
Days scrambling on Skye need not be a purely guided experience. The days can also be structured to giving you the skills to scramble safely and independently.
Scrambling or Rock Climbing - add flexibility to your course
It is not necessary to commit to a course solely to go scrambling OR rock climbing on Skye. It is also possible to book a course say for 4 or 5 days and decide each evening what the following days activities will entail. This has the advantage of allowing greater flexibility with the weather and can therefore ensure that in a week of mixed weather more can be achieved on each day.
You should be fit enough to walk for up to 8 hours a day over very rough terrain while carrying a day-sac. Ideally you will already have some scrambling experience elsewhere though depending on the scrambles to be attempted on Skye this is not essential.
